Now playing on Heathen Radio: The Nightfly, by Donald Fagen, largely because of this excellent retrospective on its place in popular music (via Andrea, at Facebook). Check it out, unless you are — like certain wives of mine — allergic to the axis of Fagen/Becker.
Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream’s in sight
You’ve got to admit it
At this point in time that it’s clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we’ll be A.O.K.
I like walking through the raindrops…
I know what happens / I read the book…
I just don’t get the female aversion to all things Steely Dan-related. Am I just a freak? :-) I mean, it’s not Tupac or anything! It’s SMOOTH, for goodness sake!
Anyway, glad I got you to give it a spin…I never, ever get tired of The Nightfly.
Good point. I’ve always thought it was good make out music, but invariably, I would have to change the disk/album off Fagan. Oh well, Kitaro was never a loser.
