Talking Points Memo is all over the Republican war on voting.
They’ve completely embraced the fact that, when more people vote, they do less well. So they’re actively working to make it harder to vote. How do they sleep at night?

OK, I’m in. ;-)
I’m down with the evil, racist, anti-poor war on voting because I think the right to vote should be limited to American citizens (age 18+) with at least a marginally verifiable identity.
Everybody knows what the voter ID concept is about. The (not unconditional) right to vote is too precious not to apply a fair and reasonable measure of control to limit the extent to which any living or dead human organism crawling around anywhere on the planet is permitted to vote in American elections as many times as they so feel entitled.
Sooooooo weary of the phony claims of racism, hatin’ dem po’ folk, hatin’ dem old folks, and whatever other hollow, mind-numbing, false accusations one might care to add to the huge, steaming pile.
Not so long ago, I lived in a halfway house for six months (already questionable credibility vaporizes…). Wanna guess what the FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS was for most of the residents? I’ll give you three guesses…..the first two don’t count.
Answer: GET A FUCKING PHOTO ID (do not pass go, do not collect anything, anywhere). Not necessarily a driver’s license, but at least a standard issue State of Texas ID card.
But why? Why assign such importance to this particular task? Does an ID card ward off racism? Do ID cards feature hidden RF chips that take control of the human will and force them to vote Republican?
Why? Because you cannot operate or participate in our society in any effective or meaningful way without an (arguably) verifiable, documented identity. No ID, no life. Forget it. Go home. You’re locked out of the real world without an ID. You’re nobody, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. You have to take responsibility and actually do something about it.
But, yeah, go ahead and make absolutely damn sure that minorities, “the poor”, and the elderly do not obtain IDs. Sound like a real social justice winner to me. We wouldn’t want those people getting a taste of genuine, independently earned quality of life and identity apart from their political keepers. We wouldn’t want that.
Isn’t that what the ballot box is for, after all? A place to vote oneself into the quality of life to which one is entitled on account of one’s aggrieved victimhood?
As usual, The Mant goes on too long, overstates his point, and gives himself a mild headache in the process.
