It’s sad, but I must accept the fact that it is impossible for me to see the movies I saw in the 70s and early 80s again. They’re gone. Lucas has destroyed them, and made it clear they’ll never be available again. And I’ll be damned if I’ll give that goatfucker any more money for ham-handedly re-edited versions.
“NOOOOOOOO!” said Darth Vader.
A business decision like this, one guaranteed to provoke little other than fan outrage, makes me question Lucas’ mental health in a very real way.
Suckers like me would have paid through the nose with little hesitation for a Blu-Ray box set that included the original versions of the films, or at very least the modified versions previously released on DVD, which are arguably sufferable.
But, if I understand correctly, these new releases are a THIRD version molested twice over now? Jesus H. Jawa. I lie vanquished in the hot sands of despair.
Evidently, back in 1988, Mr. Lucas argued forcefully before Congress to stop people from using technology to alter our “intellectual and cultural heritage.”
