I’m going to argue for why this might work:
Marvel already has split itself into two lines–one for fanboys full of hyper-masculinity, camel-toes, and heaving, jutting breasts; and one for kids where the traditional story lines haven’t changed much at all. Further, Marvel Studios has done a fairly good job in its freshman and sophomore outings in providing fan-boy approved material. I daresay Ironman and the Incredible Hulk were much better than Fox’s rendition of the X-men, or even Columbia’s Spider-Man series imho. I’m fairly certain that Disney won’t allow a Joel Schumacher to fuck up Marvel Studios the way he did the first Batman franchise at Warner Bros. (Seriously, Joel. Eat an enormous bag of dicks in hell, bucko.)
But I digress. Long story short: I don’t fear a Disney merger as much as I might have in the past because I’m fairly certain that Hollywood has finally figured out that it doesn’t need to monkey with character lines that have sustained a particularly wide demographic for put-near 50 years. What I fear more is the intensity of images in G-rated movies. I don’t want to see Dark Knight violence in my talking-hamster flicks. Period. That is a separate issue that has little to do with the quality of material that will continue to issue from Marvel’s comic line.
Well, Spidey with ears? There are ways it might not suck. Well, I guess if the sale doesn’t go through.
I’m in agreement with you. It is teh suck.
pixar and marvel could be special.
Interesting angle, though Pixar has done its best work with original stories.
It is a small world after all.
Good point on Pixar. That might have some legs on it….
I have just been worried about Marvel for some time anyway.
I have been told, however, that I should come back to the fold. But, when Spidey cloned is when I left….
