I have no plans to see *Disclosure Day*

This blurb at Ars Technica really kind of sums it up — sorta:

Review: Disclosure Day is big on action, light on ideas

They go too far in praising Spielberg; I don’t think he’s been an interesting director in a long, long time. He was always a little hit or miss, but looking at his filmography I don’t see a genuinely great movie in there since Ryan in 1998. AI was a turgid mess. Minority Report collapsed under the twin singularities of the director and the star.

The new film will have rousing music and some no doubt fun action set pieces, but it’ll be devoid of any actual new ideas, and will leave your imagination the moment you throw out the leftover popcorn.

It’s kind of the same thing with Scorsese, honestly, whose output since Casino 31 years ago (or, if you’re more charitable, The Aviator 22 years ago) has been similarly rote and unintersting.

Both of these men turned filmmaking on its head in their most creative years, but appear to have nothing new to say. But because Hollywood, that doesn’t stop them from saying it.
