TPM is reporting that a recent SCOTUS ruling allows states to confine “sexually dangerous” inmates indefinitely after their sentence is complete. More at WaPo.
I’m sure there’s no way this will ever get abused.

I can think of a few obvious reasons why this might be a good idea, and a few why it might not. They haven’t gone into sufficient detail with regard to implementation to get a meaningful sense of practical intent here. Baseball bats, network cabling, butternut squash, go go boots, and large ring gauge cigars also qualify as items that could lend themselves to abuse, but if they, too, were removed from me for that reason alone, I would have precious little to do with my weekends.
Fair enough, but I tend to err on the side of not giving the state the ability to lock folks up indeterminately. This is just “enemy combatant” by another name, and seems to have tremendous habeas problems on its face.
