Anything that further encourages people to disregard orders from the pilot because they are special, different, and important is a bad thing. This is one of those things.
I don’t think I could have written that more poorly than I did if I tried.
What I meant was, we have more than enough people too frequently displaying everything from full-on ape shit behavior to mere disregard of instructions (due largely, I believe, to their belief in the degree to which they are special, different, and important) on airplanes.
For a pilot to routinely issue arguably meaningless orders not only doesn’t help matters, it also subtly undermines his credibility.
Sure, but note that these instructions are typically issued by the flight attendants, who in their capacity as in-air waitresses had no credibility to begin with.
