  1. Reality kicks Mr. Audacity in the ass. Things as they are and not as they should be. These prison should never have come to light and the CIA should be flattened for not doing their primary job, operating covertly.

As someone who is not a supporter I will give him a passing grade so far. I see very little difference between his foreign policies and that of W. Speeches have been window dressing. I don’t like his stance in Latin America with the Chavistas/Honduras but that is not going to really end the world so he can sellout to them if he wants. Am amazed that no one points out that Z tried to change to constitution against both the legislature and the Supreme Court and then dismissed the military when they would not enforce his policies. Them tossing him seems reasonable to me.

Gross spending would be my biggest concern. The taxes that are sure to follow and the place where they take them from is also a major worry. I don’t like the treatment that banks are getting, way to lenient IMO. I can’t believe they allow pay increases to record levels after having the benefit of free public monies. There is no trickle down of TARP and this should be his main concern. He needs to take a page out of Clinton and focus on the economy if he wants to survive.

Wait until they start hanging the state of the economy on him. I think Reagan started owning the bad economy about two years in…

  2. Yes, Edgar, we know you don’t believe it’s important for our country to follow its own laws. I pretty much let that statement stand all on its own; there’s no real reason to rebut something so self-evidently bankrupt.

    Seriously?

I don’t like his stance in Latin America

Nobody really cares about LA. It’s ugly, but it’s true.

I agree that the banks haven’t been handled correctly; most economists seemed to think the right plan was to nationalize, recapitalize, and reprivatize as quickly as possible. Of course, that fucks all the shareholders — but these enterprises are the walking dead anyway.

I don’t dispute the stimulus, though it sounds like you do. It seemed like the right move, though I would have rather seen more infrastructure spending.

  3. Should say his foreign policy as it pertains to the Middle East. He is different in LA, which no one cares about (as you point out, except for us nutty Cuban Americans). No different with China. No different with N Korea. Seriously, tell me the difference.

One last thing that he has not tackled but should, is foreign trade and globalization. Perhaps too spiny for some of his constituents but an open society should have open markets.

On the torture and detainment of prisoners; Obama’s pragmatism speaks volumes.

  4. “Why don’t we close Guantanamo and restore the right of habeas corpus, because that’s how we lead, not with the might of our military, but the power of our ideals and the power of our values.”
